Appointment of bishop of Monterey in California, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Monterey in California, United States of America, H.E. Msgr. Daniel E. Garcia, currently auxiliary bishop of Austin.

H.E. Msgr. Daniel E. Garcia

H.E. Msgr. Daniel E. Garcia was born on 30 August 1960 in Cameron, Texas. He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the “University of Saint Thomas, Saint Mary’s Seminary” in Houston (1984-1988). He subsequently obtained a master’s degree in liturgy at “Saint John’s University” in Collegeville, Minnesota (2007).

He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Austin on 28 May 1988.

Since ordination he has served as deputy priest of the “Saint Catherine of Siena” parish in Austin (1988-1990), of the “Cristo Rey” parish in Austin (1990-1991), of the “Saint Louis” parish in Austin (1991-1992), of the “Saint Mary Magdalene” parish in Humble (1992-1995), and pastor of the “Saint Vincent de Paul” parish in Austin (1995-2014). Since 2014 he has served as vicar general and moderator of the Curia.

In 2015 he was appointed as auxiliary bishop of Austin.

Besides English, he speaks Spanish.

 

Appointment of under-secretary of the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life

The Pope has appointed as under-secretary of the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life the Rev. Fr. Pier Luigi Nava, of the Congregation of the Company of Mary (Montfortians).

The Rev. Fr. Pier Luigi Nava was born on 7 July 1953 in Leffe, (BG). He entered the Congregation of the Company of Mary (Montfortians), giving his religious vows on 28 April 1978. He was ordained a priest on 17 March 1979. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Saint Anselm Athenaeum in 1978 and a licentiate in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University in 1980.

He has held various roles within his religious Congregation: several times superior of the community, counsellor and provincial secretary, and vicar collaborating in two parishes supported y the Montfortians in Rome.

Since 1996 he is a member of the Council of the Presidency as expert advisor and of the Mixed Bishops-Religious Commission of the Italian Episcopal Conference.

Since 2000 he has run a course on formation in consecrated life at the Pontifical “Auxilium” Faculty of Educational Sciences in Rome.

Since 2014 he has served as consultor at the Congregation for the Institutes of Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life.

Fr. Nava has on several occasions performed the service of support and animation for Institutes of Consecrated Life, and has a broad bibliography on themes regarding consecrated life at both formative and juridical levels.
