Resignation of metropolitan archbishop of Vitória, Brazil, and appointment of the new metropolitan archbishop

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Vitória, Brazil, presented by H.E. Msgr. Luiz Mancilha Vilela, SS.CC.

The Pope has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Vitória, Brazil, H.E. Msgr. Dario Campos, O.F.M., currently bishop of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim.

H.E. Msgr. Dario Campos, O.F.M., was born on 9 June 1948 in Castelo, diocese of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, in the State of Espírito Santo. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology at the Franciscan Institute of Petrópolis. He then attended a course in pedagogy at the Don Bosco Faculty of São João del Rei.

He gave his religious vows in the Franciscan Order of the Friars Minor on 10 February 1975 and was ordained a priest on 8 December 1977.

Within his Order, he has held the following positions: guardian of the Convent of São Bernardino and São Francisco das Chagas in Belo Horizonte; definitor; provincial secretary; vice provincial; master of novices; teacher and formator of seminarians for the philosophy course; director of the Santo Antônio College in Belo Horizonte; visitator general in various Franciscan provinces in Brazil; minister provincial of Santa Cruz in Belo Horizonte; president of the Conference of Franciscan Provinces of Brazil; and vocational promoter. In addition, he was parish vicar of São Dimas in Belo Horizonte.

On 5 July 2000 he was appointed as coadjutor bishop of Araçuaí and received episcopal ordination the following 26 September. On 8 August 2001 he became ordinary of the same diocese.

On 23 June 2004 he was transferred to the diocese of Leopoldina, and on 27 April 2011 he was appointed as bishop of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim.

As part of the Regional Episcopal Conference Leste 2, he was a member of the Episcopal Council, and head of the sector for Vocations and Ministries and the accompaniment of priests.

 

Appointment of bishop of San Miguel, Argentina

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of San Miguel, Argentina, the Rev. Damián Nannini of the clergy of the archdiocese of Rosario, currently director of the Biblical School (Cebitepal) in Colombia.

Rev. Damián Nannini

The Rev. Damián Nannini was born in Rosario on 15 September 1961. After his primary and secondary studies in the Sagrado Corazón College of Rosario, he entered the San Carlos Borromeo Seminary in Rosario.

On 15 December 1989 he received priestly ordination for the archdiocese of Rosario.

He obtained a licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome.

He exercised his priestly ministry in the Cathedral Church of Rosario and then as formator, professor and rector in the Metropolitan Seminary; advisor to Catholic Action; rector of the Niño Jesús Church; parish priest of the Nuestra Señora de la Guardia parish; expert in the Episcopal Commission for Faith and Culture of the Episcopal Conference of Argentina; coordinator of the archdiocesan biblical animation team; secretary of the Biblists Association of Argentina and member of the Editorial Board of the Revista Biblica Argentina and of the journal Pastor.

He is currently director of the Biblical School (Cebitepal) in Colombia.

He has written several publications on biblical-theological subjects.

 

Appointment of ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences

The Pope has appointed Krzysztof Wielecki, professor of sociology and psychology at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, Poland, as ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.

Prof. Krzysztof Wielecki was born in Warsaw in 1954. He graduated in pedagogy, psychology and sociology from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow where he began teaching in 1977. In 2005, after earning a doctorate in Sociology at the University of Łódź, he was professor of the University of Warsaw and director of the Laboratory for Social and Cultural Issues of Europe. From 2007 to 2010 he led the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology and, at the same time, the Section of contemporary sociological theories and macrosociology of the Warsaw Academy of Specialization. Since 2013 he has served as professor of sociology and psychology at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw.

His studies and publications concern the field of contemporary social thought; in particular regarding economic sociology, psychology, social philosophy, the philosophy of man and culture, and the current crisis of civilization.
