Resignation of archbishop of Reims, France, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Reims, France, presented by H.E. Msgr. Thierry Jordan.

The Pope has appointed H.E. Msgr. Éric de Moulins-Beaufort, currently auxiliary bishop of Paris, as metropolitan archbishop of Reims, France.

H.E. Msgr. Éric de Moulins-Beaufort

H.E. Msgr. Éric de Moulins-Beaufort was born on 30 January 1962 in Landau in der Pfalz, in the diocese of Speyer, Germany.

He completed his studies at the University of Economics Paris II, obtaining a degree in economics, and at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris, obtaining a diploma in political sciences. He entered the seminary, attended the Institut d’Etudes Théologiques in Brussels, then continued his studies in Rome, obtaining a licentiate in theology. He completed his studies at the Institut Catholique of Toulouse, gaining a doctorate with a thesis entitled “L’esprit de l'homme” ou la présence de Dieu en l'homme: Anthropologie et mystique selon Henri de Lubac.

He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1991, for the archdiocese of Paris. Since ordination he has held the following positions: teacher and director of the Seminary in Paris (1992-2008); chaplain at the Montaigne Lyceum (1992-1993) then at the Louis Le Grand Lyceum (1993-1994); teacher at the Notre-Dame Faculty of the Ecole Cathédrale (from 1995 to the present); head of the Maison Saint-Roch of the Paris Seminary (1997-2000); and parish priest of Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis (2000-2005). He served as special secretary to the Cardinal Archbishop of Paris (2005-2008), and continues to teach at the Ecole Cathédrale. Since 2008 he has served as vicar general.

On 21 May 2008 he was assigned the titular see of Cresima and appointed as auxiliary bishop of Paris. He received episcopal consecration on the following 5 September.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Cardinal Henri de Lubac International Association, as well as of the editorial board of the magazine Communio and of the editorial board of the Nouvelle Revue Théologique.

Within the French Episcopal Conference he is president of the Doctrinal Commission
