Resignation of archbishop of Popayán, Colombia, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Popayán, Colombia, presented by H.E. Msgr. Iván Antonio Marín López.

The Holy Father has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Popayán, Colombia, H.E. Msgr. Luis José Rueda Aparicio, currently bishop of Montelíbano, Colombia.

H.E. Msgr. Luis José Rueda Aparicio

H.E. Msgr Luis José Rueda Aparicio was born in San Gil, Santander, in the diocese of Socorro y San Gil, on 3 March 1962. He completed his philosophical studies at the major seminary of Socorro y San Gil and his theological studies at the major seminary of Bucaramanga. He was ordained a priest on 23 November 1989. He holds a licentiate in moral theology from the Alphonsian Academy in Rome. As a priest he has served as parish priest in various parishes, professor of the major seminary, deputy director of the diocesan Secretariat for Charity Pastoral Care, rector of the Diocesan Institute for Rural Development and diocesan vicar for Pastoral Care. On 2 February 2012 he was appointed as bishop of Montelíbano and received episcopal ordination on the following 14 April.

 

Appointment of special envoy to the celebration of the 200 th anniversary of the evangelization of the West and North of Canada

The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Gérald Cyprien Lacroix, archbishop of Québec, as his special envoy to the celebration for the 200th anniversary of the evangelization of the West and North of Canada, beginning with the arrival of Fr. Norbert Provencher and missionary companions of the current archdiocese of Saint-Boniface, to be held on 15 July 2018.
