Appointment of coadjutor bishop of Saint-Jérôme, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop coadjutor of Saint-Jérôme, Canada, H.E. Msgr. Raymond Poisson, currently bishop of Joliette, Canada.

S. E. Msgr. Raymond Poisson

S. E. Msgr. Raymond Poisson was born on 30 April 1958 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec. He completed his studies at the Seminary of the Holy Trinity in Saint-Bruno and at the Collège André Grasset, and was ordained a priest on 9 December 1983 for the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil. He obtained a baccalaureate from the Theological Faculty of Montréal. From 1987 to 1989 he studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University, obtaining a doctorate in theology.

 After his studies in Rome, he was appointed as special secretary to the bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, S. E. Msgr. Bernard Hubert, also holding the position of vicar and then parish priest of Saint-Georges in the episcopal city. From 1995 to 2007 he served as parish priest of the co-cathedral of Saint-Antoine de Padoue. Later, he was pastor of the Pastoral Unit Sainte-Marguerite-d'Younville and Rector of the Basilica of Sainte-Anne of Varennes.

On 1 May 2012 he was appointed as auxiliary bishop of Saint-Jérôme and received episcopal ordination on the following 15 June. On 8 September 2015 H. E. Msgr. Poisson was appointed as bishop of Joliette.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Rome

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of Rome the Rev. Gianpiero Palmieri, of the Roman clergy, parish priest of the parish of San Gregorio Magno and responsible for the ongoing formation of the clergy.

Rev. Gianpiero Palmieri

The Rev. Gianpiero Palmieri was born 22 March 1966 in Taranto, in the province and archdiocese of the same name. After attending the Pontifical Minor Seminary, he studied at the Almo College Capranica.

He was ordained a presbyter on 19 September 1992.

He obtained a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University.

He has served in the following offices: vice-rector of the Pontifical Minor Seminary (1992-1997); diocesan assistant for the Youth Catholic Action (1992-1999); vicar of the parish of Saints Simon and Jude (1997-1999); vicar of the parish church of San Frumenzio ai Prati Fiscali (1992-2004); prefect of the IX prefecture (2007-2011); parish priest of San Frumenzio ai Prati Fiscali (2004-2016); and parish priest of San Gregorio Magno (from 2016 to the present).

He is also responsible for the permanent formation of the clergy.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Mechelen-Brussel, Belgium

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussel, Belgium, the Rev. Can. Koenraad Vanhoutte, currently vicar general of Brugge, assigning him the titular seat of Tagora.

H.E. Msgr. Koenraad Vanhoutte

H.E. Msgr. Koenraad Vanhoutte was born on 31 August 1957 in Ostende in the diocese of Brugge. In 1975 he entered the major seminary in Brugge. From 1976 to 1978 he studied philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven, obtaining his licentiate in 1978. From 1978 to 1982 he attended theology courses at the major seminary in Brugge.

On 17 July 1983 he was ordained a priest and incardinated in the diocese of Brugge.

Following priestly ordination he was sent to Rome and, although a student of the Pontifical Belgian College, he attended theology courses at the Pontifical Gregorian University, obtaining a licentiate in 1985 and a doctorate in 1989 with specialization in liturgy.

Returning to his diocese, from 1985 to 1995 he served as professor of theology at the major seminary in Brugge. In 1955, he was appointed as professor of sacramental theology and liturgy. In 2005, he was appointed as canon of the Cathedral Chapter of Brugge and episcopal vicar for parishes. In 2006, he also became rector of the major seminary in Brugge and responsible for permanent deacons.

From 2011 to 2012 he assumed the role of diocesan administrator during the vacancy of the see of Brugge. In 2012 he was appointed as vicar general. From 2015 to 2016 he again served as diocesan administrator, and vicar general again since 2016.
