Resignation of auxiliary of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and appointment of new auxiliary

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary of the archdiocese of Colombo, Sri Lanka, presented by H.E. Msgr. Vincent Marius Joseph Peiris.

The Pope has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the same metropolitan see the Rev. Jayakody Aratchige Don Anton Jayakody, of the clergy of Colombo, currently episcopal vicar for priestly formation and rector of the Saint John Mary Vianney archdioesan seminary, assigning him the titular see of Mulli.

Rev. Jayakody Aratchige Don Anton Jayakody

The Rev. Jayakody Aratchige Don Anton Jayakody was born on 2 October 1958 in Pamunugama, in the archdiocese of Colombo. In 1975 he entered the minor seminary of Saint Aloysius, in Colombo. In 1977 he entered the preparatory seminary and in the following year he began his philosophical studies in the National Seminary of Our Lady of Lanka, in Kandy.

After attending the theological course in the same national seminary, he was ordained a priest on 27 July 1985, for the clergy of the same metropolitan see.

He has held the following positions: staff member of the preparatory seminary, Kalutara (1985-1986); parish priest in Wewala (1986-1987); staff member of the preparatory seminary, Kalutara (1987-1990); parish priest in Pannipitiya (1990-1991); higher studies in Rome (residing in the Pontifical Saint Paul College) (1991-1993); bursar of the Kandy National Seminary (1993-1995); parish priest in Halpe (1995-1996); parish priest at Welivita (1996-1998); formator in the Kandy National Seminary (1998-2003); director of the philosophy section of the Kandy National Seminary (2003-2005); rector of the Kandy National Seminary (2005-2011); and since 2011, episcopal vicar for priestly formation for the archdiocese and rector of the St. John Mary Vianney archdiocesan seminary, for adult vocations.

 

Appointment of coadjutor of Ilorin, Nigeria

The Holy Father has appointed as coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Ilorin, Nigeria, the Rev. Paul Adegboyega Olawoore of the clergy of Oyo, currently judicial vicar and parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes, Ogbomoso and dean of the same pastoral area.

Rev. Paul Adegboyega Olawoore

Rev. Paul Adegboyega Olawoore was born on 30 November 1961, in Ikuri, diocese of Oyo. He studied philosophy and theology in the Seminary of Saints Peter and Paul in Bodija, Ibadan.

He was ordained a priest on 3 October 1992, for the diocese of Oyo.

Since priestly ordination he has held the following positions: Collaborator at St. Mary’s, in Ilesa (1992-1993); collaborator at the Saints Peter and Paul Parish, in Ile-Ife (1993-1994); secretary to H.E. Msgr. Julius Adelakun, bishop of Oyo (1993-2000); parish priest of Saint Bernardine, in Oyo (1996-2000); parish priest of Saint Mary Magdalene, in Tede (2000-2001); studies for the licentiate in canon law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome (2001-2003); director of the Saint Francis College (2003-2011); canonist and judicial vicar of the diocese (since 2003); dean of the Oyo area (2005-2011); diocesan director of the Committee for the Family (since 2006); parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes, in Ogbomoso, and director of the Catholic Grammar School in Ogbomoso (since 2011); and dean of the pastoral area of Ogbomoso (since 2012).

 

Appointment of auxiliary of Olinda and Recife, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Olinda and Recife, Brazil, the Rev. Limacêdo Antônio da Silva, currently diocesan coordinator of pastoral care of the diocese of Nazaré and parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Goiana, assigning him the titular see of Salde.

Rev. Limacêdo Antônio da Silva

The Rev. Limacêdo Antônio da Silva was born on 20 September 1960 in Nazaré da Mata in the state of Pernambuco. He studied philosophy at the Instituto Filosófico Estrela Missionária in Nova Iguaçu in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and theology in the Escola Teológica São Bento de Olinda in Olinda.

During the years 2002-2007 he obtained a licentiate and doctorate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 12 January 1986, for the clergy of the diocese of Nazaré.

He subsequently held the following positions: parish vicar of Nossa Senhora da Apresentação in Limoeiro; parish priest of São José in Frei Miguelinho; parish priest of São José in Vertentes; parish priest of São Sebastião in Machados; parish priest of Divino Espírito Santo in Paudalho.

He currently holds the positions of diocesan coordinator of pastoral care and parish priest of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Goiana in the state of Pernambuco.
