Resignation of the vicar apostolic of Iles Saint-Pierre et Miquelon and incorporation of the vicariate in the diocese of La Rochelle (France)

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the apostolic vicariate of Iles Saint-Pierre et Miquelon presented by H.E. Msgr. Pierre-Marie Gaschy, C.S.Sp, and at the same time suppressed the aforementioned vicariate by incorporating its territory into the diocese of La Rochelle, in France.

 

Resignation of bishop of Alajuela, Costa Rica, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Alajuela, Costa Rica, presented by H.E. Msgr. Ángel San Casimiro Fernández, O.A.R.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of Alajuela, Costa Rica, the Rev. Fr. Bartolomé Buigues Oller, T.C., currently local High Provincial Counsellor and Master of Novices in the seminary of the Capuchin Tertiary Religious of Our Lady of Sorrows in San José, Costa Rica.

Fr. Bartolomé Buigues Oller, T.C.

The Rev. Fr. Bartolomé Buigues Oller, T.C., was born in Teulada, Spain, in the diocese of Alicante, on 7 March 1963. After attending primary and secondary schools in his native country, he entered as an aspirant for religious life in the seminary of the Capuchin Tertiaries in Godella, diocese of Valencia. He held the postulancy and the novitiate in Burgos. He gave his perpetual profession on 25 June 1988. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in theology from the San Vicente Ferrer Theological Faculty in Valencia, Spain, a licentiate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, a degree in Gestión de Centros Educativos from the “Felix Evaristo” Institute in Santo Domingo, and a licentiate in social and cultural anthropology at the State University of Costa Rica.

He received priestly ordination on 22 April 1989.

He has held the following positions: head of military pastoral in Morón de la Frontera, Spain (1989-1990), formator in the Fundación Caldeiro College in Madrid (1990-1992), prefect of postulants, local Superior and Master of Novices in Costa Rica (1992- 1999), superior of the Hogar de niños Community in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, head of ministry of vocations, and provincial vicar of the Southern Cone Province of South America (2000-2004), superior of the Community and superior of the Hainamosa Children’s Centre in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (2004-2007), general counsellor in Rome (2007-2010), and provincial superior in Costa Rica (2010-2013). Since 2013 he has served as local superior, Master of Novices in the Seminary of the Order in San José and provincial counsellor and, since 2016, president of the Conference of Men and Women Religious of Costa Rica.

 

Appointment of apostolic nuncio to Armenia

The Holy Father has appointed as apostolic nuncio to Armenia H.E. Msgr. José Avelino Bettencourt, titular archbishop of Cittanova.
