The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Hartford, United States of America, presented by H.E. Rev. Msgr. Christie Albert Macaluso.

 

Appointment of bishop of MacKenzie-Fort Smith, Canada

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of MacKenzie-Fort Smith, Canada, Rev. Fr. Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R., currently parish priest of “Our Lady of Victory”, Inuvik, North West Territories.

Rev. Fr. Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R.,

The Rev. Fr. Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R., was born on 18 February 1967 in Edmonton, Alberta. Raised in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Fr. Hansen attended Saint Gerard’s School, Saint Patrick's School and Saint Joseph’s High School there. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta in 1997. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology at Saint Michael's College in Toronto, concluding them with his master’ degree in divinity in 2003.

In the Saint Joseph parish of Grande Prairie, managed by the Redemptorists, Fr. Hansen encountered the Congregation. He gave his temporary religious profession in 1998 and his perpetual vows in 2002. He was ordained a priest on 24 April 2004.

After ordination, from 2004 to 2005, he served as deputy parish priest of St. Theresa, in the diocese of Saint John’s in Newfoundland. Subsequently, from 2005-2008, while he was Vice-Parish Priest of St. Patrick, he was also appointed Director of the formation of Redemptorists in Toronto. In 2008 he was head of the “Out of the Cold” programme, before being appointed as parish priest of Saint Mary, in Saskatoon, until 2015. In Saskatoon, Fr. Hansen was appointed as dean for the West Zone and member of the presbyteral council of the diocese.

In 2015 he began his experience as a parish priest at “Our Lady of Victory” in Inuvik, in the diocese of MacKenzie-Fort Smith.
