Appointment of bishop of Guarabira, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Guarabira, Brazil, the Rev. Aldemiro Sena dos Santos, currently parish priest of São Jorge dos Ilhéus and of the Cathedral of São Sebastião.

Rev. Aldemiro Sena dos Santos

The Rev. Aldemiro Sena dos Santos was born on 26 June in Ibirataia, diocese of Ilhéus, in the State of Bahia. He carried out his studies in philosophy (1987-1988) and theology (1989-1992) in the Institute of Theology in Ilhéus.

He received priestly ordination on 20 December 1992, and was incardinated in the diocese of Ilhéus, in which he held the following offices: rector of the minor seminary (1993-1996); parish priest in the parishes of Nossa Senhora da Escada in Olivença (1993-1996), Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Barro Preto (1996-1998), Nossa Senhora Aparecida in Ilhéus (1997-2007), and São Francisco de Assis in Ilhéus (2007-2014); administrator of the diocesan “Centro de treinamento de líderes”; diocesan pastoral coordinator; and representative of the diocesan clergy. In addition, he has served as member of the Commission of the clergy of the Nordeste 3 Region of the CNBB. He currently holds the roles of parish priest of São Jorge dos Ilhéus and the Cathedral of São Sebastião, diocesan bursar, member of the College of Consultors, and administrator of the diocesan pastoral centre.

The Holy Father has appointed as members of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples Their Eminences Cardinals Beniamino Stella, prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy; Giuseppe Versaldi, prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education; Dominique Mamberti, prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature; Jean Zerbo, archbishop of Bamako, Mali; and Louis‑Marie Ling Mangkhanekhoun, vicar apostolic of Paksé, Laos; and Their Excellencies Msgr. Giuseppe Lazzarotto, titular archbishop of Numana, apostolic nuncio; Msgr. Mario Giordana, titular archbishop of Minori, apostolic nuncio; Msgr. Adriano Bernardini, titular archbishop of Faleri, apostolic nuncio; and Msgr. Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life.
