Resignation of bishop of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, presented by H.E. Msgr. Mario Eusebio Mestril Vega.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba, Rev. Juan Gabriel Diaz Ruiz, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Camagüey, Cuba, currently parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Florida.

Rev. Juan Gabriel Diaz Ruiz

The Rev. Juan Gabriel Diaz Ruiz was born in Camagüey, Cuba on 14 November 1960. Before entering the seminary he studied civil engineering at the University of Camagüey. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in the seminaries of St. Basil the Great in Santiago de Cuba and St. Charles and St. Ambrose in Havana. He holds a licentiate in sacred scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome.

He received priestly ordination on 5 August 1989, and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Camagüey.

He has held the following offices: vicar of the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Morón; vicar of the parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Florida; vicar in the parish of Nuevitas; parish priest of Nuevitas; parish priest of Guáimaro; professor at the St. Charles and St. Ambrose major seminary in Havana; delegate of the clergy of the archdiocese of Camagüey at the National Commission of Priests; diocesan administrator of Camagüey; and parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.

 

Appointment of under-secretaries of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development

The Holy Father has appointed as under-secretaries of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development Rev. Msgr. Segundo Tejado Muñoz, former under-secretary of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum; Rev. Fr. Nicola Riccardi, O.F.M., lecturer in the Faculty of Theology, professor of Justice and Peace, in the Pontifical Antonianum University of Rome; and Dr. Flaminia Giovanelli, former under-secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.
