Resignation of the bishop of Fidenza, Italy, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Fidenza, Italy, presented by Msgr. Carlo Mazza.

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Fidenza, Italy, the Rev. Don Ovidio Vezzoli, of the clergy of the diocese of Brescia, currently lecturer and prefect of studies at the diocesan seminary and librarian of the same diocese.

Rev. Don Ovidio Vezzoli

Msgr. Ovidio Vezzoli was born in Adro, Italy on 2 January 1956. He studied in the seminary of Brescia, attending the Faculty of Northern Italy, and was ordained a priest in Brescia on 14 June 1980.

He served as vicar in the parish of Sant’Apollonio di Lumezzane from 1980 to 1985; from 1985 to 1991 he studied in Padova, in the Istituto Santa Giustina, where he obtained a degree in theology with liturgical specialisation. He then served in the Curia as secretary in the Secretariat for the Liturgy from 1985 to 1993. In the meantime, from 1988, he let the “Tempi dello Spirito” secretariat until 1991.

From 1991 to 1999 he served as special secretary to the bishop; from 1991 he taught liturgy in the seminary and for a decade was prefect of studies and librarian. He has always offered pastoral service in the parishes of the diocese, in Bagolino from 2004 to 2013 and Pompiano from 2013 to 2016. He currently teaches liturgy at the Higher Institute of Religious Sciences, promoted by the Catholic University of Milan in Brescia. He is the author of numerous publications of a liturgical-pastoral nature.
