Pope’s appeal regarding famine in South Sudan and the Horn of Africa, 22.02.2017
At the end of today’s general audience the Holy Father launched an appeal for the populations of South Sudan and the region of the Horn of Africa, beset by grave conflicts and major famine.
“Of particular concern is the troubling news from afflicted South Sudan, where a fratricidal conflict joins a severe food crisis in the region of the Horn of Africa, condemning to starvation millions of people, including many children. At this time it is more necessary than ever for us all to not only make statements, but also to make commitments to providing real aid in the form of food supplies and to ensure they reach the suffering peoples. May the Lord sustain these brothers of ours, and those who work to help them”.
