The Holy Father appointed:

- Archbishop Joseph Kalathiparambil, former secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples, as archbishop of Verapoly (area 1,500, population 3,420,896, Catholics 326,376, priests 336, religious 1,161), India. He succeeds Archbishop Francis Kallarakal, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same archdiocese was accepted by the Holy Father.

- Bishop Michael Jude Byrnes, auxiliary of Detroit, U.S.A., as coadjutor archbishop with special faculties in Agaña, Guam (are 474, population 165,404, Catholics 140,593, priests 50, permanent deacons religious 96), Pacific Islands.

- Rev. Heriberto Cavazos Pérez and Oscar Efraín Tamez Villareal as auxiliaries of the archdiocese of Monterrey (area 17,448, population 4,905,000, Catholics 4,602,000, priests 602, permanent deacons 52, religious 1,184), Mexico.

Bishop-elect Cavazos Pérez, currently spiritual director of the major seminary of Monterrey, was born in 1948 in Zaragoza de Allende, Nuevo León, Mexico and was ordained a priest in 1976. He has served as cooperator vicar in various parishes and in the Cathedral church of Monterrey, youth pastoral assistant, parish priest, dean and episcopal vicar.

Bishop-elect Tamez Villareal was born in Allende, Nuevo León, Mexico in 1973 and was ordained a priest in 2003. He holds a licentiate in moral theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University and has served as parish vicar, attorney for marriage cases at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal, formator and professor at the major seminary of Monterrey, coordinator of the archdiocesan vocational centre and of the commission for responsible parenthood and the defence of life, member of the national council of the Mexican organisation for vocational pastoral workers and chaplain of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate.
