Angelus: Francis remembers women religious, victims of violence, 04.09.2016

During the Angelus following the canonisation Mass, the Holy Father remembered the Missionaries and Missionary Fathers of Charity, the spiritual family of Mother Teresa, asking that their holy founder keep watch over them on their journey and help them remain faithful to God, to the Church and to the poor. He also greeted the official delegations present, especially those closely linked to the new saint, and the many pilgrims from those countries that were most associated with her, invoking God’s blessing on them.

“I affectionately greet all of you, dear volunteers and workers of mercy. I entrust you to the protection of Mother Teresa, so that she may teach you to contemplate and to adore the Crucified Jesus every day so as to recognise Him and serve Him in our brothers and sisters in need. Let us also ask this grace for those who have joined us via the media from all parts of the world”.

Finally he spoke about those who serve their brothers and sisters in difficult or dangerous situations, referring in particular to the women religious who give their lives. “Let us remember, in particular, the Spanish missionary, Sister Isabel, murdered two days ago in the capital of Haiti, a very troubled country. I pray for an end to such violence and for greater safety to all. Let us also recall the other sisters who have recently suffered violence in other countries, and let us do so by praying to Our Lady, Mother and Queen of all saints”.
