Vatican City, 2 July 2016 – The Holy Father appointed Bishop Gaétan Proulx, O.S.M., auxiliary of Québec, Canada, as bishop of Gaspé (area 20,637, population 95,100, Catholics 84,900, priests 46, permanent deacons 4, religious 120), Canada. He succeeds Bishop Jean Gagnon, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese upon reaching the age limit was accepted by the Holy Father.
