Vatican City, 11 May 2016 – The Holy Father appointed Fr. Moacir Silva Arantes as auxiliary of the archdiocese of Goiânia (area 13,320, population 2,408,943, Catholics 1,246,346, priests 213, permanent deacons 26, religious 562), Brazil. The bishop-elect was born in Itapecirica, Brazil in 1969 and was ordained a priest in 1999. He studied theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and has served in a number of pastoral roles including parish vicar, pastor in various parishes, rector of the Seminary of Theology, diocesan coordinator for vocational pastoral ministry and family pastoral care. He is currently parish administrator of Our Lady of Piety in Pará de Minas.
