Vatican City, 13 April 2016 – The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Santiago Sánchez Sebastián, O.A.R., as bishop prelate of Lábrea (area 230,636, population 94,800, Catholics 70,800, religious 22), Brazil. The bishop-elect was born in Cortes (Navarra), Spain, in 1957, gave his religious vows in 1976 and was ordained a priest in 1980. He has served in a number of pastoral roles including teacher at the Colegio San Augustín in Valladolid, Spain, vocational promoter, teacher in the minor seminaries of Valladolid and Lodosa, master of novices n Monteagudo, Navarra, and superior, formator and parish priest in Forteleza, Brazil. He is currently delegate of the province of São Nicolau de Tolentino" and parish priest in Manaus, Brazil. He succeeds Bishop Jesús Moraza Ruiz de Azúa, O.A.R., whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same prelature in accordance with canon 401 paragraph 2 was accepted by the Holy Father.
